Queens Borough Hall Garage in Kew Gardens - Fact Sheet

On September 27th 2006,the New York City Economic Development Corporation issued a Request for Proposals concerning the Queens Borough Hall Garage in Kew Gardens. Bids are required to be in (after an extension) by January 5, 2007.
Highlights of the Specifications:
- The present 916-spot Municipal garage would be demolished;
- 126th Street, which now provides130 parking spaces, would be demapped;
- In its place, and over the extended property behind Queens Borough Hall (zoned C4-4) would be built:
- A high school for 1,500 students (to be built by the School Construction Authority); any unused air rights would be available to the developer;
- A mixed used commercial office/residential building containing
- A minimum of 400,000 square feet of office space (approximately 50% to be rented by the Queens District Attorney)
- Residential apartment (330 units?), approximately 200,000 sq ft.(?) For 80% market rate and 20% affordable.
- Minimal retail space
- Parking spaces for “approximately 900” vehicles. (The existing Municipal garage contains 916 spaces.)
